I Write Smut

Hello, there. First of all, thanks for taking the time to read something that I’ve written. I really, really appreciate it!

Next, I have a confession to make: I like to write about sex.

I’ve been writing erotica for a few years now. These days I mostly write for the sheer fun of it. I’ve published under quite a few pen names. A few months ago I decided that writing sex was more of a hobby for me, and I stopped letting it stress me out.

French Nude(Sorry, gang. For simplicity’s sake I’ve decided to stop publishing on Smashwords, or anywhere other than the blog. It’s just one more thing that I need to keep track of. This blog has tons of stories on it, and if you really don’t like that I’ll probably make my books available for direct download in the future.)

I generally write sex stories about men with women, but I’m not a prude about any combinations of bodies, genders, or desires, so you never know what might show up. Some of my stories are just pure sex, and some are more complex. I’ve written pure erotica and more romantic erotica. I’ve also written a couple of novels that aren’t really erotica, but have lots of graphic sex so I think they kind of qualify. I haven’t published these yet, but I will.

I use the word cunt. Not always, but pretty often, when it feels right in the story. I love that word and I don’t like it that we’ve turned it into the dirtiest word in the English language. Or maybe I do like that it’s been despoiled, because it still gives me a little shock when I say it or write it. There aren’t many words that still have the power of the word cunt. You can read my thoughts on it in this post.  Anyway, I bring it up because cunt is central to my whole mythos, and it tells you what kind of writer I am. If this paragraph makes you shift in your seat, good. I want you to feel something. If you’re horribly offended, this is a sign that my blog is not for you.

Some of my stories contain darker fantasies. I’m very aware of issues of consent. I’m an ardent feminist and I write stories that sometimes cross into dubious territory. My rule is that even if there’s fear or coercion, my heroine always gets off and is uplifted by the experience. For those of us who’ve felt our core quiver at the thought of losing control to something more powerful than ourselves, I hope it resonates with you.

Finally, I write erotica for fun, not profit. At least, not any more. Starting in the new year (2016) I’ve decided to go free with all of my stories. I will post them here, and (gradually) liberate them on Smashwords as well. I’m not certain of the shape this is going to take over the next few months, but I feel rather sure that I want to focus on connecting with readers and writing my smut. This give-and-take of money is getting in the way of the stuff I really enjoy, so fuck it. Erotica libre!

  • Genres: all smut, fantasy, literary/experimental.

I’ve always been fascinated with how people come together, explore their desires and find pleasure in their lives. I like escaping into creative worlds, turning daydreams into something that feels damn near real. Writing gives me a way of sharing the intimacy of these daydreams with you.

One of my frustrations with mainstream fiction is that it so often skimps on the ‘good parts’. I guess that’s why I enjoy romance and erotica: what happens between the sheets is the most important part of the story. While my most sexual writing won’t be on Wattpad, you can expect that I’m not a big fan of “fade to black” in my stories. If characters are doing it, you’ll be along for the ride.

Thanks again for reading! It would mean the world to me if you would leave me a message in the comments, or on Twitter, or at my blog. I promise that I don’t bite!

  1. Very cool bio. Its nice when its a little interesting, and not just the usual bumf (is that a word; and is that how you spell it?) I share your feeling about writing for fun; I have the problem that coming from the pretty humble background I do, the idea of doing things for my own fun is difficult. It seems rather indulgent. So, I am always thinking how can I make some money from writing and blogging and I need to stop this. I am not a published author, but have written professionally in other capacities, so know I can write. Its just more fun to write like I do on my blog. I also fantasies about making a short independent film about one of my stories. Its a long way away; but I can dream.

    • Ha, yes. I had a glimpse of making money from my erotica a few years ago. The experience actually tarnished me, I think. Instead of writing for fun I was constantly thinking about how marketable a story would be. Which diminished the enjoyment. I’m certainly not opposed in any way to getting paid for writing, but it’s hard work. For me the money isn’t worth the cost. Meanwhile, writing for love is much more fulfilling. Invisible expectations have been lifted. It’s nice not to write something and think “I could sell this” but rather “I can’t wait to share this”. Different experience.

I like the idea of making a film. For me, I’ve wanted to make a zine. You know, on paper.

Thank you for reading and commenting, I appreciate your thoughts.
